ill Misk1 - The Making Of “Connected”

May 22, 2009 Posted by Tony Buddha

I remember the first time I saw Sandro Tchikovani’s ( Misk1’s ) paintings six years ago at the artist Tomokazu Matsuyama’s loft in Brooklyn. I was stunned by the precision, style and movement of his letters. Every line, shape and shadow were important elements to each painting’s overall meaning. Now with his latest works, Sandro has done the bravest thing an artist can do. He has deconstructed everything in his earlier style (letterforms, texture and color) to form a new artistic language that’s filled with more expression than ever. “I think we all like to participate in the art,” he told me recently about the viewing experience. His new works allow the viewer to participate more than ever.
